Annual Awards and Recognition Dinner
Each year, the New Jersey State Law Enforcement Officers Association holds and Annual Awards and
Recognition Dinner to recognize and pay tribute to law enforcement officers who have demonstrated
heroic or
unselfish acts of bravery while in the line of duty. We are justifiably proud of those officers
and acknowledge
our duty to publicly honor them for their dedication in protecting and serving the
State of New Jersey.
Annual Awards and
Recognition Dinner, nominated law enforcement officers are eligible
for the following awards:
MEDAL OF HONOR
To be bestowed upon an officer who dies while in the performance of his duty.
Death may result but is not restricted to that of violence or crime; also
includes death from a medical complication that is a direct result of pursuing
a suspect. May include individuals who decide to take action knowing
that, in all probability, such an action will either result in death or
serious injury.
MEDAL OF VALOR
Awarded to an officer who performs his or her duty while risking personal safety
in an instance where the potential of personal injury is high.
PURPLE HEART
Awarded
to an officer who sustains injury as a direct result of a physical assault
with or without a weapon, for example, injuries due to gunshots, stab wounds,
attacks or actions with intent to harm including, but not limited to, attacks
with a crowbar, baseball bat, or actions such as being thrown down stairs
or run over by a suspect.
MERITORIOUS SERVICE
Awarded
to an officer in recognition for an act of bravery, for example, pursuit
capture of an armed suspect, confrontation with an armed suspect or hostage
situations.
POLICE STAR Awarded
to an officer who acts beyond the call of duty. Can be presented
for an act of bravery, service, detention or apprehension.
OUTSTANDING POLICE WORK:
Awarded
to an officer who has shown dedication to duty through follow-ups that
result in an arrest, through recovery of stolen property, participation
in foot pursuits or for the successful conclusion of investigations, large
drug arrests, etc...
AWARD OF MERIT
Awarded
to an officer who continually displays dedication to duty, or for the successful
completion of a law enforcement campaign, civic program or crime prevention
effort.
APPRECIATION AWARD:
To
be presented to an individual, group or business that performs a service
or provides for the well-being of our organization and/or its members.
HUMANITARIAN AWARD:
Presented in recognition of an act that is selfless and intended for the sole benefit
of others.
